Domestic abuse: Will affect 1 in 4 women in their lifetime; Leads to, on average, two women being murdered each week; Accounts for 16% of all violent crime, however is the violent crime least likely to be reported to the police; Has more repeat victims than any other crime (on average there will have been 35 assaults before a victim calls the police); Is the single most quoted reason for women becoming homeless; Can include forced marriage and/or female genital mutilation.
Jigsaw4u will solve the problem by delivering a specialist service for women fleeing domestic abuse. This is a difficult time for these vulnerable and disadvantaged families. They need time to heal, find their feet, and get help with the financial, legal, emotional and practical problems they face. We will offer a needs led service at a time and place to suit the women and their families, and allow them to focus on the issues they identify. Our staff will be supported by a team of volunteers.
