Smallholder farmers in Nigeria produce 90% of the nation’s food, yet most live in extreme poverty – often with no access to basic services, secure income or safety nets. Help us build local beekeeping capacity so that families can create resilient, sustainable incomes for generations to come.

Small-scale farmers produce 90% of Nigeria’s food, yet over 72% live in extreme poverty. Most lack access to stable, diverse income and are hit hardest by climate change and economic shocks. With no safety net or alternative livelihoods, these communities remain trapped in cycles of poverty that deepen with every failed crop and rising cost of living.
Bees Abroad will train 300 new beekeepers across two regions of Nigeria, including 20 young women and men who will become future trainers. By building skills and local capacity, we create long-term access to beekeeping —an environmentally friendly, valuable, additional source of income. Beekeeping also boosts crop yields through natural pollination, improving food security and resilience for small-scale farmers and their communities, while advocating for cleaner farming practices.
