Craft Café Govan is a grassroots, community-led project for vulnerable local older people. It supports 80 local people each year to live independently for longer. It provides a social and creative environment to tackle social isolation and loneliness in one of Glasgow’s most deprived communities.

The Govan area of Glasgow has one of the lowest life expectancies in the UK. Since 2010 Craft Café Govan has been fighting key causes - poverty, social isolation and lack of agency. 40% of those attending live in the top 0.5% most deprived streets in Scotland where there are few community activities for older people that aren’t an hour of bingo. Running year round, 3 days a week, it offers creative activities that create friendships, a sense of purpose, and that support good health for longer.
The key aim of Impact Arts, and the Craft Café, is ensuring access to the arts for the most disadvantaged, addressing common challenges experienced by those living in poverty through: - Improving people’s health and wellbeing – engaging in the creativity has been shown to be effective in the management and prevention of health conditions and illness. - Connecting communities - reducing social isolation; renewing pride in where they live; and ensuring individuals have a voice and agency.
