“I was in such a bad place that I honestly don’t know where I’d be in my journey without CancerCare.” More people are living for longer with cancer: they need support to face new fears and challenges. A new diagnosis, a difficult treatment, or the impact of surgery: our clients need us even more.

Cancer treatment is relentless – daily radiotherapy, weekly blood tests and chemotherapy. Patients are dealing with side effects of treatment and the impact of the diagnosis on their mental and emotional health. They come to us overwhelmed; physically and emotionally changed by their cancer, moving fearfully, not sleeping, not eating well, living in a state of tension. “You put on a brave face and make out that you’re OK, though there were times when I was so scared and upset.”

“You were there in my darkest moments of sadness and despair, and made me realise I am not alone.” Our clients may need counselling to deal with a new diagnosis, or specialist EMDR therapy to help with flashbacks and nightmares. They tell us that scar massage has helped to ease pain and improve mobility after surgery; that nutritional therapy has helped them rebuild their health after cancer; and that hypnotherapy has helped with crippling post-treatment anxiety.
