In the UK, 72% of mothers feel invisible. 30% suffer the after effects of birth trauma; 15-20% struggle with postnatal depression and anxiety; and 80% need more support to breastfeed. 40% of domestic abuse begins during the perinatal period. The beginning of motherhood is a vulnerable time with many women newly unwaged, dependent and invisible. Support in this period is critical to ensure physical and mental wellbeing of both women and children.
Baby Umbrella nurtures new mothers and their families. Our weekly groups are a friendly refuge full of qualified, experienced and compassionate women there to help parents feel safe and develop confidence in their new identity and role. We provide in person and online support with feeding, sleep and emotional wellbeing. Our listening service provides confidential emotional support for those who are particularly struggling. We know that when new mothers feel safe and cared for, they can thrive.
