The Art Explora Mobile Museum tours artworks from the national collection to areas with no or limited access to the arts, offering new cultural opportunities and creative activities for schools, communities and the public. When surveyed during the 2024 pilot tour, 74% of teachers said they had never visited an art gallery with their pupils, cost of transport is cited as the main barrier to access.
The Art Explora Mobile Museum travels directly into communities, and locations are chosen for their proximity to primary schools, and to provide easy access for schools, community groups, families, adults and community groups. The programme is also free for all visitors, removing all financial barriers to accessing art. The facilitated visits allow for everyone, regardless of their knowledge of art, to have a valuable experience.
