Reach Charity brings families with children with upper limb differences (ULD) together. For 921 families in the UK we are a community. We aim to reach more families and widen the opportunities for children with ULD (19-27 of 100,000 UK babies born each year) to connect and know they are not alone.

Data shows: 73% of responding families (survey ’24) felt unsupported after ULD diagnosis. Countrywide consistent knowledge of Reach in obstetrics would enable early emotional support and an ULD community. ULD children rarely get to meet someone who looks like them and doesn’t stare or ask awkward questions. They feel isolated. Social anxiety when transitioning to secondary school and being a teenager with an ULD in a world of social media affects confidence and wellbeing.
Bring families together: with funding, the number of families with immediate knowledge of Reach will increase with our pilot Liaison Nurse project working to raise awareness in obstetric departments across the UK; our volunteer branch coordinators can roll out our piloted Regional Family Weekend Programme; and our loved annual adventure for teenagers and young people - RAW – will be sustained & more accessible regardless of financial situation, allowing bonds to be formed that last a lifetime.
