Sunderland & the North East of England face some of the highest rates of UK child poverty. According to the End Child Poverty Coalition, 35% of children in Sunderland live below the poverty line, with rates rising to over 40% in some of the city’s most deprived wards. More than 1 in 3 children are growing up without the basic resources they need to thrive. This is not just an economic issue—it is a humanitarian one. The effects of poverty on a child’s life are immediate and long-lasting.
