When women and children escape domestic violence, they are often placed in empty social housing without essential items like flooring, furniture or white goods. Many have left everything behind and starting again with nothing can make them feel worthless, increasing the risk of returning to the perpetrator. Buying essential items is also a leading cause of debt for vulnerable families, keeping them in poverty. Despite this, 22 million pieces of furniture end up in landfill in the UK every year.

Furnishing Futures provides fully furnished, safe and nurturing homes for women and children, using donated furniture from the interiors industry. By creating trauma-informed homes, we will help families break the cycle of poverty, boost their confidence and support their children’s mental and physical well-being. A comfortable home ensures women are less likely to feel they have no option but to return to the perpetrator to meet their and their children’s basic needs, creating safety.
