4.3 million children in the UK live in poverty. Shoes are essential & expensive (+ school shoes are mandatory), creating impossible choices for struggling families. Without proper footwear children are missing out on physical education, getting wet feet in the rain, cold feet in the snow and are excluded from play and sport - impacting their emotional wellbeing and school engagement. 81% of families receiving our shoes report they would otherwise have cut back on food to afford footwear.
This winter, we will ensure children have well-fitting shoes for school, sport & play. We provide new and nearly new shoes, wellies, slippers & sports shoes. We reach children & families in need via our UK-wide network of community organisations including baby banks (0-18 yrs), schools, children’s services & domestic violence shelters. Last year we provided over 300,000 children in need with decent shoes. We are the only UK charity doing what we do.
