Rising homelessness in the UK poses serious challenges to wellbeing, with pregnant women representing a particularly vulnerable group, with pregnancy known to contribute to heightened risk of relationship breakdowns and domestic violence. Unexpected pregnancy or pregnancy loss can be a source of huge anxiety – especially if women are also facing trauma, abuse or other challenging circumstances. This may include mental health issues, drug/alcohol abuse and experiences of the care system.
Life uses trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches to empower and support women. Our houses offer safe accommodation as well as dedicated Support Workers, who offer both 1-1 support and groups skills session to prepare them for moving onto independent living. Workshops cover topics like budgeting, nutrition, community safety and parenting. Our helpline is non-coercive, non-judgemental and client-centred – offering skilled listening and counselling based on women’s needs.
