Blue Elephant opens up access to the arts by meaningfully engaging with people unlikely to access creative opportunities. We aim to meet people 'where they are' & offer activities and performances which inspire, develop & fulfil them, working to support positive mental health & personal development.

Lack of access to the benefits the arts provide. We bring creative opportunities to those less likely to experience them due to socio-economic deprivation, racial inequity, disabilities, neurodivergence and, more recently, location. These opportunities help them, particularly young people, overcome the impact of challenges they face, such as poor well-being and low self-esteem, and impact their aspirations and sense of self. “It was important...learning about our culture.”(young audience member)
We solve this problem by not just providing high-quality creative opportunities-whether workshops or performances-but by creating work inspired by the people we already work with and those we want to reach, so that it is relevant to and representative of them and provides the intervention needed, eg community play participants saying weekly workshops give purpose to their week. We work hard to build networks, especially with other grassroots groups, to ensure we reach those with least access.
