The project will support more young people who are living with multiple vulnerabilities including: 1. Mental health conditions, primarily anxiety & low mood 2. Negative school experiences & struggling to engage with training and employment 3. Socio economic disadvantage, impacting on engagement with services 4. Additional health or communication needs, including neurodiversity 5. Underserved communities, including LGBTQ+ BAME young people 6. Struggling to make friends and social isolation
Our proposal has developed from our increased understanding of the need for this type of intervention locally in Macclesfield over the last 3 years. Our evaluation has evidenced the validity of Mentoring as an intervention model which is also supported by other national research. The current service in Macclesfield is over-subscribed and we have had to close our waiting list. We aim to increase capacity of the project and expand the service to other locations by recruiting a lead project worker.
