Over 500 families rely on The Fridge for food, hope and community support. Demand continues to grow, but funding cuts have forced us to reduce our hours. Help us increase our hours, provide 144,000 meals and stop 70,000 kg of food going to waste, and keep nourishing our community.

1.5 million adults in London and 400,000 children experience hunger - a shocking statistic in one of the world’s richest countries. While millions are facing hunger, food is being wasted. In the UK, over 10.4 million tonnes of food is wasted- equal to approximately 18 million tonnes of greenhouse gases and represents around 25% of all food consumed. If it were a country, food waste would be the 3rd largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. We work to use surplus food to feed families.
Sustainable Merton believes a healthier, more connected community will have the greatest impact so our work addresses both environmental and social goals. We tackle both food waste and hunger by collecting surplus food from businesses and residents and offer it to our members at our twice weekly sessions. In 2024, we rescued 64,376 kg of food - equivalent to over 155,000 meals and 207,000 kgs of Co2 saved! Our sessions also provide other support and social benefits to our members.
