Parkinson's UK recently launched our Nurse Appeal to address a critical gap in healthcare. Thousands of people with Parkinson's don't have access to the nurses and healthcare specialists they desperately need to support them living with the condition. The Christmas Challenge can help us change that.

Parkinson’s nurses are highly trained specialists and a continuous point of contact for people with Parkinson’s. With the number of people living with Parkinson’s projected to increase by 20% by 2030, demand on services is increasing. Each nurse should have no more than 300 patients, yet many have over 1,000, while 20% of those diagnosed have no or limited access to a Parkinson’s nurse. With fewer than 400 Parkinson’s nurses across the UK and 30% set to retire before 2030, we need to act now.

We have launched an ambitious appeal which aims to raise £9 million over a period of 3 years to expand the Parkinson’s specialist workforce and enable us to support more people living with the condition. This could help us to fund 25 Parkinson's nurses, giving 7,500 more people access to a specialist nurse, and 30 allied health professionals, giving 12,000 more people expert care for specific symptoms.
