People seeking sanctuary face severe challenges in the UK: a hostile asylum system, negative policies, harmful media narratives, and community tensions fueled by misinformation. This toxic combination prevents integration and compounds trauma for people who have already fled persecution. City of Sanctuary UK tackles these barriers by fostering understanding, changing narratives, and building support networks that transform the UK into a place where people can rebuild their lives with dignity.

We're creating a movement that encourages and inspires more and more new people to become involved in promoting welcome. At a local level we believe change happens through connecting people from the receiving community with people seeking sanctuary and that social connections can turn people’s empathy into action, through our networks we aim to mobilise people behind UK level campaigns and leverage local authority political power locally for change.
