2026 marks 20 years of START: Lyric's free 6-week programme for 30 NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) West Londoners aged 16-25. They attend artistic workshops under creative pastoral support, addressing behaviours that previously prevented them from succeeding in mainstream education.

National statistics show that almost 1M UK 18–25 year-olds are NEET, particularly those facing multiple disadvantages. This issue is acute in West London (as demonstrated by surveys from Action West London). We receive consistent referrals from local youth services and community organisations highlighting the need for creative, supportive programmes tailored to this group. Feedback from previous participants shows a clear demand for engaging alternative approaches that build employment skills.

START focuses on creativity, behavioural change and personal development. Each cohort engages in intensive drama-based workshops designed to build transferrable soft skills like communication, teamwork and problem-solving. A professional creative team & support staff provide 1-2-1 pastoral support, helping participants set goals and overcome personal barriers. We also provide post-programme follow-up support and enrolment in other Young Lyric programmes to enrich and deepen engagement long-term.
