BYO’s tackling the lack of access & diversity in the UK opera industry. High training costs, limited networks & personal barriers e.g. caring responsibilities, jobs or health challenges exclude talented young people from building opera careers. High-quality training & mentoring is needed to those who feel a career is out of reach. Without supporting diverse early-career artists & creatives to gain skills, confidence & mentoring opportunities, the UK opera industry will remain a privileged sector

BYO breaks down the barriers that stop talented young people from building careers in opera. Our free, 6-month Serena Fenwick Programme (SFP) offers flexible, high-quality training & mentoring—giving 16 emerging singers, stage managers, conductors & directors the skills, confidence and support they need to take their next step, whatever their background. It's 13 weekend masterclasses, practical work experience, a performance opportunity with industry professionals & a paid for showreel.
