We are addressing problems of poverty, social isolation and poor mental health for children and young people in Plymouth and the South West. Plymouth is ranked among the 30% most deprived areas in the UK. 16.3% of children live in poverty. A child born in Plymouth today will live 10 years less than the UK average. School attendance rates are below UK levels. Children missing education are at significant risk of underachieving, being victims of harm, and becoming NEET later in life.
TRP enriches lives in the South West through arts & culture. We are the largest cultural institution in our region. We are committed to using our resources to improve the quality of life for the people of Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall, including children and young people. Our work seeks to improve mental health and well-being and increase access to arts participation and employment for people from the most deprived areas in the South West, and addressing social problems in Plymouth.
