Thousands in the UK are living with liver conditions that are affected by a chronic lack of awareness and understanding, leading to delayed diagnosis, stigma, and isolation. We need to raise awareness, promote early detection, and ensure those affected have access to trusted information and support.

Too many people with little-known conditions like primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and autoimmune hepatitis experience late diagnosis due to a lack of awareness. Childhood liver disease is especially complex. There are many types, often with no known cause. There is no cure, only lifelong care, and many will need a liver transplant at some stage. Patients and families can feel isolated and struggle to get the support and specialist care they need.

We will raise awareness of the signs and symptoms to support earlier detection, educate healthcare professionals, and ensure patients and families have access to clear, accessible resources. This includes our adult nurse-led helpline, dedicated support for children, young people and their families, face-to-face and online support groups, and trusted information to reduce isolation and improve outcomes.
