At Christmas, most of us look forward to spending time at home with our families, cooking together, decorating the Christmas tree, and enjoying space to relax and celebrate with our loved ones. But for Fatima and her family, home is an overcrowded one-bedroom flat.

Fatima, her husband, and their three children squeeze into a tiny home with almost no privacy. There’s barely space for a table, let alone for laughter or play. The holidays are especially hard. School is out and the cold keeps them indoors. Two of Fatima’s children brim with festive energy while her daughter, who is autistic, becomes overwhelmed by noise. The clash of needs can quickly turn what should be joyful family time into moments of tension and distress.

In the warmth and care of our Family Centre, Fatima’s children make friends, feel safe, and create happy memories. Her daughter has a quiet space of her own and the support she needs to thrive. While her children play, Fatima receives wraparound support from our benefits, housing, immigration, welfare and employment teams. For a few precious hours, she can relax — knowing her children are happy and cared for as our expert advice teams help her build a brighter future for her family.
