The Yomper is an 18-foot bronze statue of a heavily laden Royal Marine Commando, flying a Union Jack from his radio antenna. It honours the endurance, determination, and courage of the Royal Marines, commemorating their vital role in the Falklands War. Be part of the effort to keep the flag flying.

The Yomper statue has stood proudly on Southsea seafront for over 30 years, a powerful tribute to the courage and endurance of the Royal Marines. Its iconic location overlooking the Solent is importantly accessible and visible to all. Unfortunately, exposed to the harsh coastal elements, what was built to last is now under threat. The statue faces deterioration, and the flag requires replacement at least once a year.

We are building a fund to protect and preserve the Yomper statue and the flag it proudly flies for generations to come. This is about more than caring for a statue: we are safeguarding a powerful and iconic symbol of Royal Marines history at their former home. With this funding, our team of expert conservators will use high-quality materials and specialist techniques to preserve the Yomper, ensuring it remains in its accessible seafront location with the flag proudly flying all year round.
