Ablaze is raising funds to address the inequality of opportunity for young people. We inspire and connect young people, some who live in areas of deprivation, with local businesses who mentor and support with reading and share different career paths enabling young people to invest in their future.

Young people in the West of England are struggling with unemployment, low wages & insecure contracts. Many leave school without relevant experience & knowledge to enter the job market. Covid exacerbated these inequalities, leaving a disproportionate impact on young people, particularly those from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Many young people don’t have the basic skills to prepare for ongoing education & employment and young people are not getting what is needed or deserved for their future

We have three main programmes which cover reading buddies in primary school to career mentoring in secondary school & our Employment and Skills programme for school-leavers. What is unique about Ablaze is we use volunteers from local businesses who act as reading buddies and career mentors. They encourage participants to build their confidence and self-esteem and, through the early exploration of resilience, understand how to overcome challenges and explore their own individual skills and early
