Performing arts opportunities for state school children have drastically declined in the last decade. Many of our participants would be excluded from the arts altogether without their funded place with us: 33% are from low-income backgrounds and 40% from the global majority, a demographic often facing higher barriers to participation. Financial support is more vital than ever for this group, supporting development of transferable skills including creativity, teamwork and communication.
As the UK’s leading conservatoire, we are lucky to have a recognisable name, strong connections and resources to drive change in arts access. Our reputation opens doors to venues strategically placed amongst communities that most need support; the School’s international industry recognition ensures quality in our teaching; and our existing resources make running the programme financially manageable. With the Principal’s full backing, and a growth rate of 23%, demand for our work is clear.
