Syrian refugee youth are among the most marginalised in Lebanon. Of the 600,000 school-aged Syrian children, more than half are girls and fewer than 2% complete secondary education. Within Lebanon’s camps, educational access is especially limited: most lack the documentation or foundational schooling required to enter the formal system. For girls the barriers are particularly pronounced - 40% are married before 18. Without intervention, they face a future of exploitation, exclusion.
Alsama provides opportunities to break these barriers through world-class education, competitive sport, and pathways to University and employment. Alsama runs 4 education centres across 2 camps in Beirut. Students join us illiterate/ innumerate- we teach a novel curriculum that fits 12 years of standard schooling in 6, providing opportunities for professional employment or higher education. We maintain a student body of ~65% girls, many of whom would otherwise face child marriage.
