SRGBV violates children’s fundamental human rights and is a form of gender discrimination. Violence against girls and women is widespread in many remote poverty-stricken rural communities in Ndhiwa. Root causes are not being addressed. Girls’ rights are not protected leading to serious long-term harm and increased gender inequality. There is a lack of awareness of the impact SRGBV has on girls and their physical, emotional and mental health, as well as the harm caused to their development.
Provide SRGBV prevention and response training and support for community leaders, teachers and school management teams. Raise awareness through community netball events focussing on child protection and girls’ rights Empower vulnerable girls through regular participation in netball sessions combined with life skills training and support for victims of abuse. Provide a safe space for girls. Foster leadership and confidence among girls through team roles, counselling, guidance and mentorship.
