To honour Orlando Gibbons in the 400th year of his death, ORA Singers will perform and record a special programme featuring a number of his anthems and songs. We have also commissioned five of the finest contemporary composers to write ‘reflections' on the anthems featured.

2025 marks the 400th year of Orlando Gibbons death. As a towering figure of English Renaissance music, ORA would like to shine a light on and create a record of his small but influential oeuvre by recording a number of his full anthems and a selection of songs from 'The Hymnes & Songs of the Church'. As we approach our target of 100 commissions in 10 years, we will also take this opportunity to commission a series of contemporary reflections that demonstrate the modern resonances of this music.

ORA will record a fourth volume of its ‘Renaissance Gems & Reflections’ series, focussing on the music of Orlando Gibbons. The programme will showcase some wonderful music both old and new, incorporating a series of specially commissioned reflections from: Marco Galvani - Hosannah to the son of David Nicola LeFanu - O Lord, in thy wrath Cecilia McDowall - O clap your hands Will Todd - Veni creator Harry Baker will also provide new jazz harmonisations of the hymn verses interspersed throughout.
