Each year, over 100,000 women in England and Wales are drawn into the criminal justice system due to systemic failures in support and protection. Many face multiple disadvantages including mental ill health, domestic abuse, trauma, homelessness, and substance misuse. These women need support, not punishment. Women in Prison’s centres provide compassionate, trauma-informed, and holistic services that address these root causes—offering real alternatives to custody and to help reduce reoffending.

Our women’s centres support women to address the root causes of offending through care, advocacy and empowerment. Our holistic, trauma-informed support tackles the drivers of criminalisation—such as abuse, poverty, and mental ill-health—helping to divert women from the CJS and reduce reoffending. Our services empower women to make positive life changes, take control of their futures, strengthen family relationships, and build safer, more resilient communities.
