Group B Strep causes life-threatening infections in newborn babies, yet most of these can be prevented. Every day in the UK, two babies develop a GBS infection. Every week, one baby dies and another survives with long-term disability. Babies like Oliver. Hours after he was born, Oliver was rushed to intensive care with GBS pneumonia, sepsis, and more. Oliver made a good recovery, but his family went through a terrifying ordeal to get there. No family should have to face that.
We will - educate health professionals, ensuring they are up to date on the latest guidelines and best practices - raise awareness among new and expectant parents about how to protect their babies from GBS infection - support families affected by GBS - campaign for better prevention, identification and treatment - support further research into GBS
