In 2023/24, Dorset Police recorded 725 serious sexual offences in the county - 77% of these sexual assaults were committed against women and girls. The impact of sexual violence and abuse often leaves survivors with trauma and symptoms such as flashbacks, dissociation, and panic attacks that can hinder them from living a happy, fulfilling life.
STARS Dorset provides person-centred, trauma-informed counselling to survivors of sexual violence and abuse, creating a space for them to feel heard and supported as they explore their thoughts and feelings. Our mission is to ensure survivors are supported on their journey to recovery from trauma. We also have an Engagement Team who work with the community to raise awareness of the impact of rape and the importance of consent, as well as combatting harmful sexual behaviours in children.
