The unresolved trauma of sexual violence can have a devastating impact on people’s lives. Around 80% of our clients disclose mental health issues as a result of sexual violence - many coming to us with experiences of self-harm and suicidal thoughts. We delivered 796 specialist support sessions last year to 145 clients, but so many more remain on our waiting list. People desperately need support, and overwhelmingly the help they are asking for is specialist support.
SARSAS' specialist support work provides emotional, practical and advocacy support for survivors who have multiple support needs. Our highly skilled support workers offer a combination of emotional and practical support along with advocacy around issues such as housing, drugs and alcohol and education. We're also proud to be one of the few sexual violence organisations in the UK that offers a specialist support service for people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
