Domestic and sexual abuse and violence are pervasive issues in England and Wales, with most crimes hidden and unreported. In Brighton and Hove alone in 23/24 there were 5,130 domestic abuse crimes and incidents and 1,209 recorded sexual violence and abuse offenses. According to the National Domestic Abuse Commissioner, 67% of survivors in Sussex did not get specialist support for their children and just over 50% who wanted advocacy support did not get it.
There are two service areas that are currently insecure that this funding would support: 1. The RISE Children and Family Team provides high quality specialist support, advice and advocacy to women and children keeping them safe and together. 2. The RISE Children and young people’s Counselling and Therapy Service provides BACP accredited one-to-one counselling from a highly trained expert over 14-week sessions.
