1in4 women and 1in6 children have experienced sexual violence. Sexual assault and abuse is a crime of violence, control, and abuse of power originating in gender inequalities and stereotypes. We have seen an increase in demand for our services, up 13% from the previous year (from 1045 individuals supported in financial year 22-23 to 1177 in 23-24), whilst central funding has been severely cut and fundraising has become more challenging against the government's target of reducing VAWG by 50%.
We provide long-term, holistic, trauma-informed, survivor-led support to survivors who have experienced rape or sexual abuse at any time. Our services are specifically tailored to meet the needs of survivors of sexual violence and outcomes help survivors cope, build resilience and move forward with their lives. The survivors we serve report impacts to their mental health, physical health (STIs/unwanted pregnancies/injuries/development of long-term health conditions), Social and economic status.
