We are passionate about recognizing the strengths of people with disabilities in creative and performing arts. Our goal is to build up a network of dance leaders and dance artists in Lancaster and surrounding so we can develop a sustainable and resilient model for inclusive dance.

80% of people with learning disabilities undertake less physical activity than recommended levels. They are 2.5 times more likely to have health problems. DanceSyndrome was founded by Jen Blackwell who has Down Syndrome. Jen’s dream was to be a community dance leader. However, she was unable to find inclusive accessible dance sessions and dance leadership training for people with learning disabilities, therefore she founded DanceSyndrome in 2009.

We will work in partnership with specialist inclusive dance organisations, like DanceSyndrome, to develop dance leaders in North Lancashire. Our project will provide specialist training for people with a disability so they can co-facilitate dance workshops alongside a professional dance artist. We will continue our weekly sessions for teens/adults (all abilities) providing space for social connection and movement through dance and creative tasks which allow each participant’s voice to be heard
