Situation
Mental health and wellbeing have become a chronic concern, with many people affected by isolation, stress, and anxiety due to high cost-of-living, world conflict and climate change. In Bristol, where waiting lists for NHS services are a year long and private counselling averages at £65 per session, people are asking for more timely and accessible support which better represents their lived experience and offers them both ownership and choice in terms of their next steps into better wellbeing.
Solution
Bristol is well known for engaging in and increasing community power. At Bristol Mind we want to improve our support for our 80 volunteers who are passionate about equitable mental health. Our solution is to harness and build on their passion and skills, ensuring that our volunteer intake reflects our diverse population and that we work together to co-design effective 'routes through' - from lived experience through to volunteering, training and employment in the sector.
