For 20 years we’ve been experimenting with principles of resilience to transform Totnes and share stories globally, from strengthening local economic sectors to food systems and nature recovery. We want to widen, deepen, and lengthen the scope of our work to meet the pressing challenges.

Local people bear the brunt of exploitative systems driving ecological, climate, and social breakdown. Wealth inequality is deepening, housing is unaffordable, wildlife numbers are decreasing and energy costs continue to rise. This is happening while communities are becoming increasingly disconnected and socially isolated. We need fairer economies, restored ecosystems, and just social structures to build resilience and drive radical systemic transformation.

Transition Town Totnes works by empowering over a dozen local projects to think globally while acting locally, with the goal of benefiting our community, economy, and ecosystems. By offering resources, skills, and connections, we support initiatives that drive positive change, fostering economic, environmental, and social shifts that build local resilience. Drawing on 20 years of experience, we are equipped to guide and inspire the next phase of transformative action in our community.
