Attending university significantly boosts social mobility by providing access to higher paying jobs, broader career opportunities and increased earning potential. In the UK around 2,100 of the 10,000 young people leaving care each year go to university, but only 1,300 of these learners on on to graduate. Against of backdrop of nearly 1m UK graduates every year, NNECL are dedicated to transforming the educational outcomes of young people from care, estranged and sanctuary seeking backgrounds.

Nowhere to stay during holidays, no 'bank of mum and dad,' no access to mental health support and no one to act as a guarantor when you want to move into a shared house with your friends, all leaves students from care and estranged backgrounds without the support they need to thrive through university. Our work embeds inclusive policy and supportive practices into universities to ensure our young people have access the right support, when needed, from enrolment to graduation and beyond.
