Survivors of ‘honour’-based abuse and harmful practices face fear, shame, guilt, stigma, isolation, and a loss of belonging. Many suffer psychological trauma and don’t get the help they need due to a lack of trauma-informed services. This campaign will help rebuild their confidence and independence.

Survivors of HBA and harmful practices face isolation, fear, and stigma that prevent them from seeking help. This abuse strips them of belonging within their families and communities, leading to long-term mental health challenges. Research by Savera UK and the University of Liverpool shows that nearly 1 in 3 survivors experience serious mental health issues, and nearly 1 in 7 engage in self-harm (Ridley et al., 2023).
A year ago, Savera UK partnered with MTAS to provide survivors with immediate, 24/7 access to trauma therapy and independent interpreters (when needed). Savera UK doesn't yet have its own therapist, and while many survivors want this service, limited funding means it can't reach everyone. Improving mental well-being empowers survivors to break cycles of abuse, helping them build safer futures, which directly contributes to Savera UK's mission to end HBA and harmful practices for good.
