Cambridge City Foodbank is committed to supporting individuals and families experiencing hunger and hardship. While we work towards our ultimate goal of ending the need for food banks in the UK, our immediate mission is to meet the need for emergency and affordable food in Cambridge.

We are trying to solve the rising levels of poverty in Cambridge, which results in people needing food banks. In 2020, Cambridge was identified as the most unequal city in the UK; poverty, financial challenges and food insecurity are becoming increasingly widespread. Foodbank use in Cambridge is at its highest ever level. In 2024,we issued over 17,000 emergency food parcels; this is almost double the number issued in 2019.

We operate eight Foodbank Welcome Centres throughout the city; these provide 3-day emergency food parcels per year to people who do not have enough money to afford the essentials. To support those facing chronic poverty, we operate five social supermarkets (Fairbite Food Clubs) through local churches and community spaces, in which our 350 members can access staple food items and on-site services that support people with issues like low incomes and debt.
