A quarter of women have been through some kind of sexual violence since they turned 16, and one in six were sexually abused as children. The impacts of child sexual abuse, rape and all other types of sexual violence can be severe, wide-ranging and long-lasting. They include low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, insomnia, eating disorders, flashbacks, reproductive and sexual health problems, suicidal feelings and much more. They can affect every aspect of a survivor's life and health.
Last year, SARSVL provided specialist emotional support, counselling and advocacy to 1,309 people. Survivors consistently tell us our holistic services, provided in safe, welcoming, women-centred spaces, make real, positive differences in their lives, helping them cope with the impacts of trauma, make decisions that feel right for them, and look forward to the future with hope. They say they feel more confident, healthier, happier and can enjoy better relationships thanks to SARSVL's support.
