We create inclusive, co-created theatre that gives underrepresented communities a voice. Through accessible workshops and performances, we foster creativity, self-expression, and connection. Our work empowers individuals, builds community, and creates lasting social impact through the arts.

Situation
Theatre should unite people, but Arts Council data shows that public arts funding often reinforces social divisions. Research in Brighton reveals that lower socio-economic groups feel excluded from subsidized arts. The Warwick Commission found that the wealthiest, least diverse, and most well educated 8% dominate arts consumption and production. We see this as a social justice issue and are committed to change—ensuring the arts are inclusive, accessible, and representative of all communities.
Solution
Brighton People’s Theatre is open to all adults in Greater Brighton who aren’t professional artists, prioritizing those from lower socio-economic backgrounds. We remove barriers by covering childcare and transport costs. As an Associate Company at ACCA and Brighton Dome, we collaborate with community development teams to reach those who feel excluded. With 82% of participants new to theatre, we create an inclusive space where everyone can engage, ensuring the arts reflect and empower all.
