While there is gender parity between girls and boys studying music in schools, this balance quickly fades as they progress through education and into the industry. The Women & Equalities Committee 2024 report found that women in music face higher rates of discrimination, financial instability, and fewer opportunities for advancement compared to their male peers. These challenges are compounded for women from working-class or ethnically diverse backgrounds, who face additional structural hurdles.
