Many women who contact our service do so as a result of being victims or survivors of domestic abuse. 39% of the 3,129 women we had contact with during 2023-24 had experience of domestic abuse in their relationships. Our local situation reflects the wider national situation where women are over represented as victims of this crime, according to the Office of National Statistics the victim was female in 72.5% of domestic abuse-related crimes in year ending March 2024.
We have a small, qualified and dedicated team of staff who work to support victims and survivors throughout their journey however long this may take. Our offer to people who come to us for support is not time limited or restricted by any eligibility criteria, other than disclosing as a victim or survivor and asking for help. Our staff team includes registered social workers, Independent Domestic Violence Advocates and staff with backgrounds in probation, substance misuse, housing etc.
