In our 40th year, FORWARD is scaling up the next generation of changemakers. Through TuWezeshe and our Community Champion programme, we equip young Black and minoritised women and grassroots leaders with the skills, confidence and seed funding to tackle abuse and inequality in their communities.

Black and minoritised women face intersecting forms of violence, discrimination and marginalisation — including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), domestic abuse, and systemic racism. Many are migrants who are isolated, and face policy barriers, limiting access to services and leadership opportunities. Grassroots organisations supporting women lack training, funding and capacity. Without targeted investment, entrenched social norms, trauma and inequality will adversely impact health and wellbeing.

We support, enable and nurture women and partnership organisations to drive change. Our young women’s leadership programme, TuWezeshe, equips young women with feminist leadership skills, mentoring, and seed funding to undertake social action projects tackling violence and inequality. Our Community Champions programme trains trusted local women to support those facing harm, providing culturally responsive, peer-led support, befriending and building resilience within marginalised communities.
