In2Out is expanding its resettlement support to include lads leaving HMYOI Werrington and returning to communities in Birmingham and across the Midlands. With our support, participants are helped to navigate life after prison, shape a positive future and break the cycle of reoffending.

Situation
Young offenders are some of the most vulnerable and marginalised in our society, with a high percentage having suffered deprivation, abuse or neglect and/or mental health issues. With chaotic lifestyles and broken family structures, they lack positive life experiences, a support network and emotional maturity to navigate life. Nationally, around 66% of 15-18 year olds reoffend within 12 months of leaving custody. There is no 'through the gate' support for lads leaving HMYOI Werrington.
Solution
Through regular in-custody visits at HMYOI Werrington, In2Out will develop relationships of trust with participants. Together, they will develop a plan addressing participants' goals and needs to help resettlement back in communities across the Midlands. Resettlement support includes help with basic life skills, accessing statutory assistance, finding employment, education or training opportunities, developing social skills, developing consequential thinking and building resilience.
