ASSIST is aiming to secure the money we require to support the rising number of people who are street destitute following the refusal of their asylum claims. Money raised will go directly to supporting people seeking sanctuary in the UK in the form of cash welfare payments and bus passes.

ASSIST is a charity that provides support to individuals seeking sanctuary in Sheffield. Currently, over half of initial asylum claims (53%) are refused. At this point, Home Office support and accommodation is withdrawn. This leaves people—who are often already traumatised from fleeing conflict, persecution, and torture—street destitute and homeless, with no right to work, access to money, or housing. This experience has a significant impact on their physical and mental wellbeing.

ASSIST Sheffield helps prevent asylum destitution by offering accommodation, welfare payments, complex casework, and integration support. We assist individuals at risk of homelessness by connecting them with legal advice to resolve their uncertain legal status, as well as with healthcare services and local agencies. With 21 years experience, we fill the gaps created by hostile policies, empowering people seeking asylum to regain their dignity, achieve stability, and navigate their asylum cases.
