ASSIST is a charity that provides support to individuals seeking sanctuary in Sheffield. Currently, over half of initial asylum claims (53%) are refused. At this point, Home Office support and accommodation is withdrawn. This leaves people—who are often already traumatised from fleeing conflict, persecution, and torture—street destitute and homeless, with no right to work, access to money, or housing. This experience has a significant impact on their physical and mental wellbeing.

We assist individuals at risk of homelessness by connecting them with legal advice to resolve their uncertain legal status, as well as with healthcare services and local agencies.
