The impact of sexual violence & abuse is long-term & for some life-long. The survivors accessing our services experience high levels of psychological distress - many with PTSD symptoms like flashbacks, nightmares, panic attacks, in addition to other symptoms such as extreme anxiety, depression, & suicidal thoughts. Evidence shows survivors are associated with substance misuse, lower educational attainment, higher unemployment, homelessness, & increased vulnerability to sexual re-victimisation.
Survive works with those living with sexual trauma. Our specialist services and trauma-informed interventions can help a survivor move on with their lives, find their self-worth and confidence, rebuild relationships and build resilience. We aim to reduce survivors’ psychological distress and trauma symptoms and increase their ability to function & cope with everyday life by delivering support work, counselling, trauma therapy, EMDR psychotherapy and helpline – all free-of-charge.
