Situation
NHS statistics show that 1-in-5 young people aged 7-16 and 1-in-4 aged 17–25 currently have a probable mental health condition in the UK. Challenges prevail in the provision of timely and adequate mental health care due to lack of resources and stringent eligibility criteria and at present only 1 in 3 young people who need care are receiving treatment in the NHS. Parents/carers are left to fill the gap in services but feel isolated, unskilled, scared and helpless yet they are key to recovery.
Solution
Parenting Mental Health (PMH) is one of the few charities in the UK that specifically helps parents/carers who are supporting a child with mental health challenges. We provide 24/7 support via our Community Group (47,000 members) and run vital "skills" training to give parents/carers the confidence and knowledge of how best to help their child. We also provide other material including video tutorials via our website. Everything we offer has been designed based on lived experience.
