Situation
People live in poverty and isolation, knowing few people in their local communities which results in poor self-esteem and low mental-health. People living in poverty have no access to sewing equipment or skills so they are unable to mend, make or alter clothes and soft-furnishings for their families. Older people tend to live alone, becoming isolated and lonely with their communities.
Solution
Local sewing hubs gather weekly enabling people to make; alter and repair clothes and home furnishings; providing dignity and self-esteem. Older volunteers offer valuable skills whilst avoiding loneliness. Hubs connect on social networks; fostering friendships. We complete projects where the wider community benefit, gathering people from across cultural networks and age demographics which aid communities grow in mental health. We find offering refugees the opportunity to integrate in communities
