Through the Big Give, we have a match funding opportunity to sustain 14 Street cricket projects in deprived communities across London. The aim is to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of inactive young people who face increased barriers (cost, discrimination, accessibility) to playing sport.

Situation
Only 1 in 2 children get the recommended physical activity each day and research shows this is due to clear inequalities. Children are far less likely to be active (and therefore benefit from the positive impact of sport), if they are a girl, from a diverse community or from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Due to the cost-of-living crisis, this problem will worsen for thousands of children in London as they miss out on the physical, mental, personal and social benefits of playing sport.
Solution
We have 14 Street cricket projects in locations across London, which don’t have free sporting opportunities for young people. Street cricket is a fast, inclusive and exciting version of the game. The two-hour, weekly sessions run all year round and is free for young people. It take place in youth clubs, parks, leisure centres for young people aged 5-24 (children are grouped by age). Projects run after school/on weekends and kit & equipment is provided.
